The Face To Face with Dr Reece
A long wait outside before it was my turn...
Dr Reece called me in. He asked me how I was feeling. I told him how everything was now hard, I was still not sleeping, weak, pained, couldn't sit, can't work, got the sweats at night etc etc.
He said he asked me to come in to look at me, gauge me, and to talk about the latest scans my neurosurgeon had requested.
He was concerned I still had 4-5 weeks to wait before I saw the surgeon. And based on the results he wanted to talk with me as:
1) It wasn't humane to leave me in this state for that length of time.
2) The scans suggested that I'd be having the less favourable surgery. They weren't great. He wanted me to hear that from him. He wanted me to be prepared before I saw the neurosurgeon given I had some language barriers at our last appointment. Plus he's a soft talker!! (intentional Seinfeld reference!).
3) He wanted us to consider me getting a cortisone injection in my c5/c6 within the hospital asap.... if my neuro agreed on Tuesday (which he did).
The injection was for 2 reasons:
1) Might get me some relief and might move me back into the good surgery lane.
2) If it did not get me some relief then that was good clinical Intel. We wouldn't wonder down the track whether the less favourable surgery option was the right one. i.e. No relief was an indicator it was the right approach to take.
I was really grateful of his time and caring approach. He always has my best interests at heart. He knows how to read me and always knows what to do next. As usual, he has gone above and beyond for my cause.
I got booked into John Flynn for the afternoon of Wednesday 15th October.
